This article analyzes the historical dynamics and sustainability factors of Olympic martial arts amid the constant rotation of the Olympic Games program. The relevance of this study stems from the growing competition for program spots, which raises questions about the survival and adaptation of traditional sports. The central result of the study is the refutation of the thesis that traditionalism guarantees the preservation of a sport's status. Instead, a key pattern is identified: the sustainability of martial arts is determined by their ability to find a balance between preserving historical foundations and necessary modernization. To assess this ability, the study proposes and substantiates a new criterion – "Olympic adaptability." The practical significance of this criterion lies in the fact that analyzing a sport for compliance with the proposed parameters will not only allow for predicting its chances of maintaining Olympic status but also identifying systemic shortcomings that require targeted reform.
